The "Daughty's" Family

Rose was making breakfast when she heard a very familiar voice greeting the bickering love couple. Her grandma shouted, announcing the entry of Aiden, who was loved mostly by the grandma. Grandpa also likes him but not as much as grandma does, and for some unknown reason, Rose always feels like grandpa is still hung up on Logan after all these years.

"Hello Waters" Aiden came into the kitchen, propping himself up on the counter beside her while she made pancakes.

"Hey you, what are you doing, coming here early in the morning?" She asked, placing the done pancakes on plates.

"I knew it! I knew you would forget and that is the reason I came here early, so you wouldn't get the chance to escape our date like always." He scowled, deflated.

Oh shit! She did really forget about the date, he planned and persuaded her to agree. Aiden had been trying to take her on dates ever since he thought she recovered emotionally. But what he doesn't know was, she didn't. She just stopped telling him about the nightmares she got or crying on his shoulder whenever she remembered Logan. She agreed a few months ago to go on a date with him, not as friends, but she didn't feel at ease then. He assured that it might be awkward now but she would be fine after going on more dates.  Ever since then he tried taking her on dates and she would mostly make up an excuse for not attending it. But it seems like he is hell bent on taking her on this date. Something about his extra care on this date told her, it would create a big problem between them.

She suppressed herself from giving an excuse because it wouldn't be fair to Aiden to not give him a chance after all he had done for her all these years. She turned to him, smiling genuinely for once, excited for the date," I won't escape today. You can stay with me all day if you don't believe me."

"That's what I planned to do." He punched her playfully, and ran into the living room with the pancakes plate. After completing having breakfast, they bade good bye to her grandparents, Popeye and Piper Waters and headed to the bakery which would be opened by now by Jesse, the chief baker. She is a widow in her early 50's who is practically like a mother to Rose.

She met her when she worked in a confectionary where Jesse worked as an assistant baker to a conceited chief. The chief wouldn't allow her to try new tastes even though he sucks in making a plain cake. They became good friends on the first day of her internship. Jesse taught her tips and tricks regarding pastries and when Rose told about starting her own bakery, she right down resigned to her current position and walked out with her.

Rose was shocked and grateful for the confidence and affection Jesse showed on her in few weeks of meeting her. That was the starting of the bakery and it is still growing, expanding its branches within the city. Rose will always be grateful for every person who put efforts emotionally and physically in making the bakery successful. She still had to find the anonymous investor who backed her with everything that was needed for her to launch the bakery.

"Penny for your thoughts cupcake?" Aiden smiled at her dragging her from her thoughts. He had been calling her cupcake since she told him about her dream to own her bakery.

"You're thinking about the mysterious investor, right? Your knight in mysterious armour?" He joked but she could hear the disdain in his voice. He always complains whenever she thinks about the unknown investor that she is not paying attention to those in front of her rather to the investor whom she may not know ever. He wouldn't understand, though she tried explaining her doubts about it, so she stopped talking about it.

"He's not my knight Aiden! I'm just thinking about him because I want to know who is he, so, I can properly thank him" she answered for the nth time.

"Fine, let's just leave it. Where are you taking me in the evening?" Rose asked to lighten the mood which is a success because Aiden immediately brightened on hearing it.

"Well, it's a surprise sweet cake"

"Will you ever stop calling me with different cake names? It's weird to hear." She asked. They reached the bakery which is just a 20-minute drive from her house.

"I would when you answer my question today, then I would give you a new name excluding the cake in it" he smiled. She stuck her tongue at him, got out of the car.

"See you in the evening. I'll pick you up from the bakery." He air kissed from car waving her bye. Just like Aiden. She smiled at their friendship even fearing what would happen in the evening because she has a bad feeling about it. She shook her head determined to not let anything negative ruin her mood.

Jesse was already there like always, trying out new tastes for today's menu. It's still 7:30 am, people would start filling in from 8 am getting to their work and until 10 pm. The bakery specialty is that it gives out new tastes every month along with two regular menus and also takes orders for events. So, people can taste different flavors every month, also know about its origin. Everything is going good so far and Rose is happy with it.

"Good morning daughty!" Called out Jesse. Rose couldn't understand what is it but later teared up hearing what Jesse told.

"Daughty is a short form for daughter. If mommy is short for the mother then why can't daughty be. And you're my angel daughter" Jesse stated.

No one had ever called her daughter not even their grandparents. It's weird at first but she got used to it now. Many times people would look at them like they sprouted two heads. It's the way Jesse shows her affection calling the people she loved with a weird name and she only calls Rose with such nicknames, not even Aiden whom she knows for the same time.

"Hello, Jesse maa." She greeted entering into the gourmet. She wore her apron, getting ready to make pastries and cupcakes her two most specialties while Jenson, Laura and Tori rushed in to start their shifts shouting a group good morning to all of them, each of them. People started filling in slowly and the day has officially began at the Bakery.
